One of many design goals for this Downtown Dream was to transform 3 apartments into one custom apartment
The apartment is a work of art in itself, taking home the grand prize at the Coverings CID Awards 2018 for Andrea Farr’s use of tile, and large format porcelain slab stone throughout the home, as well as her unique and creative designs with the materials. One of many design goals for this Downtown Dream was to transform 3 apartments into one custom apartment. Andrea Farr, who has experience in both residential and commercial projects from here in Milwaukee to North Carolina, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills and beyond, eagerly accepted the challenge, drawing up layouts, and dreaming of mediums while working closely with the homeowners to bring their grand vision to life. All furnishings were custom created by Andrea Farr from the upholstery to uniquely designed rugs.
Andrea Farr describes this unique area of the home as visual eye candy. The desired contemporary look influenced the selection of the wide porcelain slab material that was used throughout the unit on the walls, countertops, and floors.
This material allowed Andrea to break the rules using minimal grout to create a very sturdy and solid surface experience. It’s properties and design flexibility allowed for unique design elements through the project. Andrea created a visual flow by using three different colors and playing between polished and unpolished surfaces. Large 3x6 panels of matte Nero (black) and unpolished Crema were used to create a piano key design down the hallway leading into the powder room and continuing up the shower walls. The floating vanity was also custom made using the same porcelain slabs.
Custom lighting was installed under the vanity to create visual appeal. Also featured in this powder room is a Hunt Slonem Bunny fine art wallpaper selection. Andrea creatively used this wallpaper cost effectively by framing and backlighting, turning it into a main statement piece of art.
