The goal of this lake country home design was to transform a dark and dated interior into a bright, airy, and open space that accentuated the feeling and views of Nagawicka Lake
The homeowner loved the views of the water & the location, but the decor felt heavy and oversaturated with the use of cherry wood trim throughout the home. Andrea Farr, the designer, decided we needed to back off of all of the cherry wood, and take the bold leap to transform this home with a transformational paint job. The new paint job established the roots for the full transformation from dark to light.
The floors were refinished from light maple to a rich toffee stain while the use of white on the trim work enlarged the feeling of the grand space. The subtle contrast of rich espresso stain outlined the important features of the architecture including handrails, stair treads and front entry door. The subtle grey hues were used on the walls to create a soothing backdrop. The fireplace was rebuilt with a new firebox insert tucked into a tonal mix of drystack grey ledge stone.
The furnishings are coastal and casual, and sit softly in the environment connecting the inside of the home with the outside views
The Kitchen is a dramatic gathering space with traditional bones. Andrea updated the feel with new dove grey glazed cabinetry, a farmhouse sink, accent island with a one of a kind high polished quartzite countertop that contrasted with a charcoal leather finished granite and oversized glass pendants connecting with the main living space of the house to the outdoors. Crackle textures can be found in the subway tile backsplash on the perimeter.
The kitchen is well appointed with Sub Zero and Wolf appliances along with a beverage center and walk-in pantry. A beautiful dinette area off the front creates a gathering spot for bold lake views while dining. White linen Slip covered chairs are no longer a threat with high performance fabrics. Andrea always considers high performance fabrics and wearability when designing the furnishings.
A long and narrow Master Bath space with prepositioned windows to view the lake presented a bit of a design challenge for placement of vanity sinks
An accent wall was created in glass mosaic brought in the colors of the outside views and the practicality of a tile backsplash. Surface mounted Robern medicine cabinets by Kholer incorporate storage and lighting for a clean and contemporary look. Beautiful glass spun undermounted sinks on the new limestone countertops create an interesting, continual, clean coastal theme. A limestone tile floor matches the countertops. A very large, well appointed shower with dual shower heads and waterfall accent tile completes this oversized spa experience.
